Steve Nelsen has increased his lead over incumbent Greg Collins in the
Visalia City Council election, according to figures released Friday by
the Tulare County Elections Division.
Nelsen has a lead of 269 votes
over Collins, up from a 131-vote lead posted Tuesday night after the
polls closed.
The new figures reflect the counting of absentee
ballots that were turned in at the polls or arrived by mail on election
day. About 2,000 more absentee votes from across the county remain to
be counted.
Three seats were up for election on the five-member
council. Mike Lane, Warren Gubler and Nelsen garnered the most votes
and are apparently the winners, ousting Collins and incumbent Jesus
Gamboa.
